How To Cozy Up & Hygge This Fall

Hygge, pronounced "hoo-ga", is a danish concept that has become increasingly popular over the past few years. I first learned about hygge a couple of years ago when I picked up "The Little Book of Hygge: Danish Secrets To Happy Living" by Meik Wiking (highly recomend!!) and have since become hygge obsessed- especially during the Fall and Winter seasons. 

The word hygge encompasses a feeling of coziness and contentment. It is found in the small pleasures when we feel gratitude for the present moment; enjoying a cup of tea by a fireplace or snuggling up under a blanket and reading a good book are just a few examples of the hygge lifestyle. 

This Fall and winter we will be a bit more cooped up than usual.  it is more important than ever to embrace the hygge lifestyle, as we find refuge in our homes, slow our pace of living and spend more time with our close friends and family. 

The hygge manifesto can be broken up into different categories- here are just a few ways you can bring a bit more hygge into your life this season.

 

1. AMBIANCE

Set the mood with cozy lighting~ stock up on your favorite scented candles, add a string of white lights or even a lantern! 

2. NATURE

Take a long stroll in the park and enjoy the changing leaves. Inside, decorate with pine cones, flowers and plants.

3. TOGETHERNESS

Enjoy the company of loved ones. Have a picnic in the park, host a game night, or take time to facetime/call family and friends you can't be with physically!

4. CUISINE

Cook or bake something new. Savor a warm cup of coffee or tea and indulge in sweet comfort foods.

5. LEISURE
